MISTLETOE

Botanical name: Viscum album Habitat: central southern Italy up to 1300 m

Plant parts used: Leaves before fruit formation Active ingredients and nutrients: choline, triterpene derivatives, alkaloids

Therapeutic properties: It proves useful as a hypotensive, thanks to the presence of acetylcholine, tyramine,-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and of flavones. The way it works is not yet clear, but it is believed to act on parasympathetic stimulation with an inhibition of the vasomotor centre. It also has immunostimulatory activity.
